There Is Power In Kindness

It’s taken me a couple days to get to writing, but it’s been a bit of a crazy season for me lately. However, I just had to share a moment that really struck me from a couple days ago.

I had just finished work and picked up the kids and on my drive home, Lennox fell asleep in the car. Not a huge deal, but he is NOT pleasant when he wakes up from a nap in the car…and this time was no different. I mean, we’re talking screaming, kicking, crying tantrum in the car as we pulled into our carport. It took several minutes to get him out of the car. Maeva was already waiting at the front door and Saxon and I were waiting for Crabby Ass over here to chill out and get moving. Lennox threw a fit the whole way up to the house. Stomping through the grass, arms crossed, still screaming at me. I actually had to hide my laugh at how ridiculous he was acting. But as I was waiting for him, a teenager was about to walk by. I smiled at him as he was about to pass and just as he gets close enough he says, “hold up…” walks over to Lennox and whispers something in his ear and walks away and winks at me with a grin. In that moment, I was so taken aback by the tiny bit of kindness he showed. Lennox walked up to me and showed me that he had given him a piece of gum to cheer him up. The teenager looked back at me and nodded as I kindly waved and mouthed a “thank you.” And Lennox walked the rest of the way completely content.

I’ve been overwhelmed lately with the amount of kindness, love, support, and friendships that have been present in my life. Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. This teenager had no idea what happened before he happened to walk up. He doesn’t know my situation. We didn’t know each other. He could’ve just kept on walking, minding his own business and let us be. Yet he took 30 seconds to stop and it made a huge impression on me. It’s the little things that add to something big. There is power in kindness.
